It was probably a good thing that I did not play today, but the damage was done. Even if it had broke by morning (it didn't - 102.1), the coughing was getting worse, and I had occasional bouts of light-headedness. I immediately sent them an email that I was withdrawing. I get home, and I feel like complete s**t. I proceed to draw round 6 and win round 7. But outside of that and coughing, I felt OK, so I played rounds 6 and 7 on Saturday and picked up cough drops to minimize the coughing. The whole upper half of both legs were in pain. Now I have arthritis, but that only explains the joints, hips and knees. I wake up Saturday morning with body aches in both legs. Then about 2 hours into round 5, I start not feeling so hot. I go to Tony's Pizza and Pasta up the street for late lunch/early dinner. Myself personally, I was completely fine Friday morning - Round 4. I should have figured that out Wednesday and Thursday and worn a mask Friday onward. Hope you get better.Įach day it seemed like the coughing as a whole was getting worse and worse in that room. Maybe my horrible stomachache that night had something to do with it. My opponent still destroyed me while being sick, though (the +200 rating difference might have helped). Thank you Vivian! We think your curious brain, and the books it creates, are excellent! Every so often odd facts still swim up to the surface of my mind whoever thought ‘Along with, together with, is CUM with the ablative’, a phrase for learning Latin, would stay with me for over fifty years? But it has … and maybe one day it’ll win me a thousand pounds! And that’ll be entirely due to my curious brain. I tend to consider that overall my type of brain has huge advantages you work out alternative ways of dealing with a problem and the things you’ve learned don’t go away. It also proved extremely useful when I became an actor – no trouble with learning lines! That saved me and got me through exams and tests. In time I learnt to use my memory I learnt loads and loads of poetry, prose, history dates, irregular spellings, Latin verbs and mathematical formulae off by heart.

I loved Latin on the whole what you see is what you say – apart from Cicero, of course. I’m always telling children how clever they are because they can read, and because they don’t write Pasiffik Ohshun which to my mind would be infinitely more sensible. I mean – just look at it! PACIFIC OCEAN = three Cs – and three different ways of pronouncing them. I had a theory that they should make some kind of logical sense (they don’t) and this made my spelling curious, and me frustrated.ĪNGER = anger, so why on earth isn’t DANGER pronounced the same way?Īnd as for the letter C … well, someone should have made their mind up about it hundreds of years ago. I was, however, always fascinated by words and letters. I was the only girl in the school (or so it seemed to me then) who still got lost after two or three years … should I go this way to the dinner hall? Or that? Watch me now in a shopping complex, and you’ll see exactly the same pattern! I was also confused about left and right, and finding my way to places. I’ve never been diagnosed (is one diagnosed? assessed?) as dyslexic, but that may well be because I was at school in the 1950s, when the word was not in anyone’s vocabulary… and even now, I’m not entirely sure that that’s the correct label.Īt school I was told off a lot for making mistakes, especially when reading out loud I can still feel the shame of being laughed at by the teacher and my fellow pupils.
